CABINS
Bear Creek Cabins of Evergreen, Colorado, formerly Davidson
Lodge, is a registered historic site, that was built
in 1947 by the Davidson family. Originally, it was just for
summer get aways to the mountains. Now, it is a year round
resort. There have been quite a few owners over the years,
and we, Bruce and Jayne Hungate, bought the property on February
15th, 1996.
We are located in the heart of the Rocky
Mountains with the crystal waters of Bear Creek just outside
your door … Towering blue spruce and pine trees abound and
many beautiful rock outcroppings complete the mountain scene.

People always ask us if we had "planned
on owning a resort…" The answer is no, but now we really
love our jobs!!
As it happened, one day Bruce came home from his job as
a tile setter and told me the Davidson Lodge was for sale.
My reaction was, …and your point is??? I had a career as
a medical diagnostics sales representative and I traveled
a lot. Bruce's business as a tile setter was flourishing.
I didn't even see how we could afford it or manage it.
Bruce was convinced that he'd be the perfect owner, since
in addition to his skills as a tile setter, he is the most
skilled "handyman" I know. He can fix or remodel anything,
and that's exactly what the place needed. There were some
major repairs, and many minor ones, but the setting of the
cabins was so beautiful, we decided to try to buy it.
With the help of our good friend and realtor, Susie
Jo Taylor, and many spreadsheets later, we acquired a loan
through the Small Business Administration of the government.
Even though we lacked experience in the lodging business,
we both really enjoyed people and weren't afraid of hard
work. Our friendliness and commitment to our customers'
needs is what has made the Bear Creek Cabins a success.
Our guests keep coming back, year after year. Maybe it's
the cabins, maybe it's the stream, maybe it's the beautiful
setting, and then again, maybe it's us…. We hope it's a
little of everything, and we thank all of our past and future
guests!!
